A friendly reminder that smoke alarms need to be updated this year:
From 1 January 2027, every Queensland home will need to meet new smoke alarm standards, and it pays to get ahead of the rush. Here’s what’s required:
✅ Be photoelectric, not ionisation
✅ Be interconnected, so when one alarm sounds, they all sound
✅ Comply with AS3786-2014, marked on the body of the alarm (you may need to remove it from the bracket to check underneath)
✅ Be hardwired to the mains with a secondary power source like a non-removable 10-year battery or replaceable 9V, or be a 10-year non-removable battery photoelectric alarm
Not sure if your alarms stack up? Our licensed electricians can check your setup and get you compliant well before the deadline, no last-minute scramble required.
