EV & Electrify Everything Expo June 21st

Noosa Electric Co Returns to Sunshine Beach EV Expo – Join Us June 22!

We’re excited to announce that Noosa Electric Co will be attending the EV & Electrify Everything Expo for the third year in a row, happening on June 21 2026. As a proudly local electrician servicing Noosa, Pomona, Bli Bli, Twin Waters and beyond, we’re passionate about supporting the Sunshine Coast’s transition to cleaner, smarter energy solutions — and there’s no better place to explore the future of electrification than this fantastic community event.

Last year’s expo was a great success, with locals turning out in force to learn about electric vehicles, solar technology, battery storage, and all things sustainable. This year, we’re bringing even more insight, experience and practical knowledge to the table — especially when it comes to home and business electrification.

Home Battery Subsidy

If you’re thinking about adding a battery to your home or business, now is an excellent time to act. What is the Battery Subsidy?

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program provides an approximately 30% discount on the upfront cost of eligible battery systems, delivered through Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) — the same mechanism used for the solar panel rebate. It is not means-tested and is available to:

  • Households
  • Businesses
  • Community facilities such as sports clubs, halls and community centres

Eligible battery systems must sit between 5kWh and 100kWh in nominal capacity, and must be installed by an accredited battery installer connected to new or existing rooftop solar. This makes it easier for more Sunshine Coast households and businesses to store solar energy, reduce reliance on the grid, and cut power bills.

Andrew and his team at Noosa Electric Co installed 46 solar panels and a 20Kw battery in our property. Andrew went beyond expectations in finding the right path that would suit our needs. He offered many options and was patient in providing alternative quotes and options. The result is spectacular. We are now not only practically off-grid but also able to contribute our excess power to the needs of the neighbourhood. Totally delighted with the results.

Since launching, the program has proven enormously popular, with the government recently expanding total funding from an original $2.3 billion to an estimated $7.2 billion through to 2030 to keep pace with demand.

As of 1 May 2026, the way the discount is calculated has changed: the rebate now steps down every six months (rather than annually) to reflect falling battery prices over time, and larger battery systems receive a proportionally smaller discount per kWh above 14kWh. This makes timing and correct sizing more important than ever when planning your home battery installation. You can read more in our article on the latest federal battery rebate changes.

What is the right size battery for my home?

Every property is different, and the right battery depends on how and when you use electricity. Recent research from the Smart Energy Council shows that most households need a smaller battery than they expect. To avoid drawing power during the expensive evening peak:

  • Over 90% of households could manage comfortably with a 6–7kWh battery
  • Many popular battery systems on the market are around 13kWh, often more capacity than required

A correctly sized battery can deliver excellent savings without unnecessary upfront cost — and under the current tapered rebate structure, right-sizing your system also helps you make the most of the available discount. If you’re unsure what size is right for your home or business, our experienced Sunshine Coast battery electrician team can assess your usage and recommend a solution that genuinely makes sense for you. Learn more about how a well-sized battery helps you store more and save more while staying in control of your energy use.

How do I get the subsidy?

When you purchase your battery through Noosa Electric Co., the subsidy is applied directly to your quote, so you’ll see the reduced price upfront. As your local Noosa electrician, we handle the STC process for you, making it simple and hassle-free — no separate paperwork or waiting for a rebate cheque.

When can I get a subsidised battery?

Yes. Subsidised battery installations have been running since 1 July 2025, and the program remains active and funded through to 2030. However, because the discount reduces every six months and tapers further for larger systems, the value available today may not be the same in six or twelve months’ time. We recommend registering your interest early to lock in the best available rate for your home battery.

What brand of batteries do you install?

We only install quality, proven battery brands that are:

  • Designed for Australian conditions
  • Reliable and safe
  • Compatible with your existing solar and electrical systems

The best battery depends on your energy goals, property layout and future plans, such as EV charging. Our team will talk you through the options and help you choose the most suitable brand and model for your home battery installation.

Battery Evolution

Battery storage is a relatively recent addition to rooftop solar systems in Australia. While the benefits of storing solar energy have long been recognised, it has taken time for battery technology to become affordable, efficient, safe, and compact enough for residential use.

For years, most Australian solar households simply exported their excess solar energy back to the grid, receiving a feed-in tariff in return — often at a rate far lower than what they paid to draw power back from the grid at night. This meant a lot of the value of a solar system was effectively being given away. Batteries changed that equation, allowing households to capture and use their own solar energy on their own terms.

Thanks to rapid advances — particularly driven by research and development in electric vehicle technology — modern home batteries are now more reliable, safer, and more accessible than ever. Improvements in battery chemistry, thermal management, and smart monitoring software mean today’s systems are a world away from the bulky, expensive options available even five years ago. Today, Australian households have access to increasingly advanced battery storage options that deliver greater performance, safety, and long-term value — all backed by an experienced local Sunshine Coast electrician team who can guide you through the options.

Battery Benefits

Batteries have two key benefits:

Ability to store electricity — rather than exporting your excess solar generation straight back to the grid, a battery lets you store it for use later in the day or overnight, when your panels aren’t generating power.

Ability to become less dependent on the power grid — with enough stored capacity, many households can significantly reduce how much power they need to draw from the grid, particularly during peak evening periods when electricity prices are often highest.

Read more about the benefits of home battery storage and how a Sunshine Coast battery electrician can help you make the most of your solar system, including how batteries pair with smart energy management and time-of-use electricity plans to maximise your savings.

Solar & Battery Compatibility Issues

Not all solar systems are compatible with every battery. Depending on the age and type of your system, an upgrade may be recommended before installing a battery — this could include upgrading your inverter, switchboard, or metering setup to ensure everything works safely and efficiently together.

If you’re planning a solar system with future battery storage in mind, it’s important to consider battery compatibility from the start, rather than treating it as an afterthought. Choosing a battery-ready inverter now can save you significant cost and hassle down the track. Speak with our Noosa electrician team — we’ll assess your current or planned system and help you find the best home battery installation solution for your home or business.

Do I Need a Battery?

You can enjoy solar power without a battery, in which case the energy your panels generate is sent to the electricity grid while your home continues to draw power from the grid when your panels aren’t producing enough. Whether you need a battery depends on your energy goals, your household’s usage patterns, and your budget.

With a home battery, you can store the electricity your solar panels produce, reducing your reliance on the grid and giving you more control over your energy usage — particularly valuable for households who use most of their electricity in the evening, after their solar panels have stopped generating for the day. A battery also provides a level of backup power during grid outages, depending on the system configuration.

Battery Rebates & Subsidies

Government incentives can make home battery installation more affordable than ever, and the rebate landscape has shifted significantly in recent times. Find out if you’re eligible for the home battery subsidy, and stay up to date with the latest federal battery rebate changes affecting Sunshine Coast households. Navigating these changes can be confusing, so our team stays across the latest updates to make sure you don’t miss out on available support.

Future-Proofing Your Solar

A solar installation is more than just panels on your roof — and we’re here to make the process simple for you. Beyond battery compatibility, we help optimise your system by considering essentials like array size, adaptability, energy management systems, timers, and EV charging capability.

As electric vehicles become more common on the Sunshine Coast, many households are also thinking ahead to EV charging when planning their solar and battery setup. A well-designed system can support both today’s energy needs and tomorrow’s, without requiring a costly rebuild down the line. For a complete, future-proof solar solution backed by long-term support from your local battery electrician, contact the Noosa Electric Co. team today.

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are becoming a practical alternative to traditional petrol and diesel cars, and more Sunshine Coast homeowners are choosing to charge their vehicles at home. As with any new technology, there are different ways to set up EV charging – and the right choice depends on your home’s electrical system, usage, and safety requirements.

In this article, we break down the key EV home charging options, what to consider when choosing a charger, and how a licensed electrician can ensure safe, compliant installation for your home.

For expert advice or installation support, call Noosa Electric Co. today for fast, reliable service across the Sunshine Coast.

The Efficiency of EVs Vs ICEs

Electric vehicles operate energetically more efficiently than their internal combustion counterparts. “EVs convert over 77 per cent of the electrical energy from the grid to power at the wheels. Conventional gasoline vehicles only convert about 12 per cent – 30 per cent of the energy stored in gasoline to power at the wheels,” [SRC: https://www.energycouncil.com.au/analysis/evs-are-they-really-more-efficient/]

In addition to this greater efficiency, they don’t create emissions while being driven, and need substantially less maintenance than ICEs. However, the real benefits of EVs are achieved when they are powered by solar on the roof (rather than power from the grid). Power supplied by renewable energy enables vehicle operation without reliance on a fossil-fuelled power source.

EV Charging Options

Meeting the Demand of an EV

Adding an electric vehicle to your household will increase your electricity usage. To manage this demand and keep running costs down, it’s important to match your solar system to your long-term energy goals. That’s why we include tailored system design as part of our free solar consultation and quote.

Our solar solutions are modular, allowing you to expand your system in future as your household energy needs evolve. When paired with an EV, a well-designed solar system can significantly improve the return on your solar investment.

Smart and Dumb Charging

You can charge your EV at home using either a standard (“dumb”) charger or a smart charger. Both will recharge your vehicle, but they work very differently.

A standard charger simply draws power from your home’s supply. You plug in and charge – easy and reliable.

A smart charger, however, can monitor your solar production and household energy use. This allows the charger to prioritise excess solar energy, meaning your EV can charge using power you generate rather than electricity from the grid. For many homeowners, that means significantly lower running costs and the ability to charge using clean, renewable energy.

If you’re considering the best EV charging solution for your household, Noosa Electric Co. can help you assess your options and ensure a safe, compliant installation tailored to your energy goals.

Optimising EV Charging

If you’re interested in optimising your EV charging, Energex has compiled a list of helpful hints and tips which can you read about here.

The Shift to Smarter Homes

A home with an optimised solar solution is made up of many interrelated parts. Some of the components are more obvious than others. If you’re hoping to charge your electric vehicle using renewable energy, you need a solar configuration that is up to the task, and a smart EV charger to optimise your charging capability.

EV Charging Solutions

Talk to Noosa Electric Co. for a tailored EV charging solution for your home or business in Noosa and surrounding suburbs. We provide options to charge from the grid or directly from your solar system, with smart charging modes that help you maximise renewable energy use and reduce running costs.

Ensure your EV charges safely, efficiently, and sustainably – with guidance from the Sunshine Coast’s trusted local experts.
